About Fight Dystopia

Fight Dystopia is a private online community born out of Cabal, an international hacker collective that combats tech-enabled abuse. This is a space for sharing and discussing ethical technology, digital rights, AI safety, open source, surveillance, and the human side of tech.

Philosophy

We believe that more meaningful human interactions online are possible when you have a community that will surface the most thoughtworthy content for each one another.
We carry forward Cabal's values of online consent, privacy, equity, and liberty.
We are a garden party, not a debate club.
The site is designed to encourage curiosity, sharing, and high-signal discussion.
All users should reject argumentation or engagement farming.
Members operate with kindness, support, and respect.
We foster a culture of solidarity and valuing diverse perspectives.

How it works

Invitation only. Any member can nominate a potential new member. Nominations are reviewed during a 24-hour period before acceptance, creating an invitation tree that helps maintain community quality.
Confidentiality. All communications within the forum and chats are confidential. Do not share forum content or user data outside the platform without explicit consent from everyone involved.
No exfiltration. Do not exfiltrate content or user data outside the platform without explicit consent. Violations may result in removal from the community.
Strict tagging. Every post must be tagged. Tags are the primary way to organize and discover content.
Transparent moderation. All moderator actions are recorded in the public moderation log. The community has a decentralized structure — no single person is in charge.
No tracking, optional JavaScript. There is no third-party analytics; the only cookie is your session. Small scripts add conveniences (keyboard shortcuts, in-page markdown preview, @-mentions and thread links in textareas, push notifications, and optional auto-fill of link titles on submit). Reading, posting, commenting, voting, profiles, and moderation all work without JavaScript.

User reputation system (clout)

Clout is on-site reputation: you earn it when others upvote your posts or comments and when someone replies to a thread you started. Clout does not affect feed ranking (see Hot vs Top). You earn one invitation for new members per 100 clout. Story titles in feeds link directly to the source; we do not measure or reward outbound clicks.

A Safety Council reviews, investigates, and addresses incidents promptly. All reports are treated confidentially. You can report concerns:

The site is rooted in Cabal's mission of driving technology forward to better protect the people canonically underserved by technology. This site is built with Cloudflare Workers and D1. Its repo is hosted on the Cabal GitHub at cabalcx/fightdystopia.net.
